Many people, both male and female, are not happy with the way their teeth look. Nearly every single person pauses in front of the mirror to take a look at their teeth as they brush them, apply make-up, or shave their face. The majority of people find fault with at least one of their teeth, if not all of their teeth. They imagine what their teeth and smile would look like if those “flaws” were corrected.
By using veneers, a dentist is able to correct most flaws a person finds with a tooth or several teeth as well as create a beautiful smile that they will be proud to show off. Veneers are used to mask stain and discoloration, close gaps between teeth, correct the appearance of jagged or chipped teeth, make short teeth appear longer and/or wider, mask bumps, ridges, and dents, and make teeth look more uniform in size, shape, and color.

A veneer is a very thin, but durable, sleeve bonded onto the front surface of your tooth. Veneers are made from porcelain or composite and look just like natural teeth in shape, size, and coloring. They can be placed on one or more teeth on both the top and bottom arches.
The procedure is typically completed in two appointments. During the first appointment, the teeth are prepped for the placement of the veneer. Unlike a crown procedure, very little of the tooth’s natural healthy structure is removed. Impressions are taken and molds are made. The dental lab then uses the molds to fabricate the veneers. Shading for the veneers is determined using a shade guide.
The veneers are returned from the lab in about 1 to 2 weeks. The dentist will temporarily place the veneer on the tooth and make adjustments as needed. After the tooth is cleaned, polished and etched, the bonding material is applied and the veneer placed on the tooth. The bonding agent is then cured (hardened) with an ultraviolet light. The dentist will check your bite (how the teeth come together when closed) and make any final adjustments.
With good oral hygiene, veneers can last for many years. To learn more about your cosmetic dentistry treatment options, contact our professional dental team today. Call 918-779-3399 to schedule your consultation.
